Genting Sunday Ride

1 Aug 2010

It was one of those Sunday everyone was too busy to come out to ride. I, myself felt shilly-shally in the morning. After staring at my bike parked at the porch, the hesitation went away and was immediately replaced with the eagerness to hit the road. I just received my new POV video cam I ordered from the internet. Naturally, I was excited about trying out the new toy. The main thing I love about my POV cam was the wireless remote that allowed me to either activate a recording or snap pictures on the fly without touching the cam. I only need to thumb the remote which was strapped to the hand grip.

The constant drizzle that fell over the night did an excellent job of washing the dirt off the road. With clean asphalt, we stormed past Ulu Yam without any fuss. Bin’s riding skills improved tremendously as he could take the Ulu Yam fast corners more gracefully. Meanwhile, Ezam was taking it easy as he was carrying a pretty pillion on board.

The crowd was light at Coffee Bean at 920am. Either we were early or majority of the regulars were up North attending the immensely popular Hadyai Bike Week. Speaking of bike week, our local versions are never a match to the Thais. Perhaps night life plays a very important role to the popularity. Meanwhile, I was greeted by a new and unfriendly 'management trainee.' Possibly, this ‘uncle’ was not her cuppa of coffee. Anyhow, I was no expert in F&B field but I could sense she was not ready to manage the outlet. Same went to the crew. I supposed the compounding effect of diners getting impatient while waiting for their turn to order breakfast and those waiting to collect their drinks got into the crew' nerves. For the first time in so many years, I waited one hour for my break-o-day.. I wished Wati was still working for Coffee Bean and my stomach won't be protesting with 'is my breakfast ready yet' sub-messages.

Capt Nik arrived later with his new Alphine White F800GS with 3 POV cameras installed, just like on a MotoGP bike. He later suggested that we head to Amber Court, a private condominium in Genting Highlands, to enjoy break taking view of Tahan mountain range and particularly Mount Tahan. The road leading to Amber Court was a little neglected with potholes and loose pebbles dotting the road. The condominium itself was in a sorry state. It looked more like an abandoned building than a proper dwelling with people living in it. However, the patchy road was perfect for potholes eating GS and we had a rather good time riding through it though Bin might disagree a bit.

I thought I was doing a great job thumbing my POV cam's remote to snap pictures. I was actually pressing the 'stop recording' button and I ended up with not a single picture taken at the beat-up road to and from Amber Court. What a waste.. as the road was actually pretty 'scenic' and possessed some unique rustic charm.

Never less, I managed to record some nice video and a few good static pictures myself chasing after Bin .. that was after realising my silly mistake.
