Awana Sunday Breakfast Ride

4 April 2010

The Chinese with Taoist faith celebrated the Qing Ming Festival over the weekend. The actual day falls on Monday but most would take the opportunity to visit their ancestral graves on Sunday. It is a time to remember the dearly departed and to pay respect to one's deceased ancestors and family members. Because it reinforces the ethic of filial piety, Qing Ming is a major Chinese festival with many Chinese visiting the cemeteries of deceased family members akin to All Souls Day for Christians.

The itch of riding got the better of me when I summed up Bin, Sam and Ivan for a short breakfast ride to Awana before I would drop by Gombak to offer prayers to my grandma at the old family's house. We would visit her grave on Monday. It would the 1st time I be offering Qing Ming's prayers to my grandma.

Ming of Bikers Pit Stop repaired an old puncture on the rear tire the day before. The leak was quite bad and he had to re-plug again from the inner side with the 'mushroom' plug. I never ridden my bike with the rear tire's air filled up to 42 p.s.i. I usually filled the rear to about 38 p.s.i. Boy, what a difference the 4 p.s.i made,.. the bike was more composed when ridden hard. Incidentally, Ivan was still suffering from the post-accident  syndrome as he was still a little nervous sweeping through the bends. Given another couple of rides, I bet Ivan would be his old self again. As usual, Sam was way ahead on his own. Bin was happy throttling about 50 m behind

We had our breakfast at Ulu Yam before a round of coffee at the mamak restaurant next to Sri Malaysia in Goh Tong Jaya. Sam caught up with Minesh, his bike's previous owner, who re-purchased another GS. I guessed David was happy to fit Minesh's new GS again with all the fancy expensive Wunderlich bolt-on accessories as he did to Sam's (Minesh's before he sold it to Sam) GS.

I managed to get back to Gombak before noon. I supposed grandma would understand why I had to 'travel' 100 odd km for a cuppa of coffee
