motobiking.com           Bums on Bikes for Breast Cancer Ride

 30 Nov 2008

It was a honourable event co-organised by HOG Malaysian Chapter and the Pink Challengers from the Breast Cancer Welfare Association to promote breast cancer awareness in Melaka. HOG would pitch rides to some 20 odd pink challengers from Menara Hap Seng, Kuala Lumpur to Dataran Pahlawan Melaka Megamal.
Sadly, the much hyped HOG failed to lived it up to the day when rally coordinator Lim failed to persuade enough HOGs to volunteer enough rides for the gusty ladies.
Our good Rashid on his spanking new yellow 1200GS ended up giving the Pink Challengers' president Ranjit Kaur a ride to the historical city of Melaka, a newly appointed UNESCO World Heritage site. Meanwhile, Sam on his borrowed GTR1400, Batman and Robin (his brother Kamarul), new found biker friends, Peter and Sonia on a KLR and yours truly rode with the non cruisers to Sg Besi Toll rest stop to meet up with the rest of bikers.
It was one of the days when the weather was in its full glory with little hint of rain. Perhaps, God, in a way to grant the pink ladies, some riding for the very first time on motorcycles, a smooth ride to destination to distribute flyers and educating people about breast cancer. Sam was having a blast on his GTR to the expressway with Peter and Sonia on pillion following behind enthusiastically. Sonia gave me one of the rare shots of myself riding my bike. We slipped to the Air Keroh R&R for a brief break while waiting for the Harley convoy to arrive. Typical of Bagsters' habits, we rested our bums too long and we soon found ourselves left behind by the main convoy. The convoy apparently left early at the toll instead of 1230pm as scheduled. Never less, we managed to re-join the main group at Dataran Pahlawan.
The Pink Ladies wasted no time to set up booths and main station at the mall's entrance. The idea was to use the bikes as magnets to attract the weekend shoppers and to show to the general public that there's life after contracting breast cancer. Whatever it is, prevention is better than cure. Our Rashid made the Bagsters proud by helping out with the awareness campaign. He even wore a pink-motive bra to show his commitment to the Pink Ladies.

We bade farewell to the ladies and made our final stop at the Dutch Square for some iced chendol before riding back to KL.  Fellow GS biker and Pink Ladies ride volunteer, Ezam joined us for the ride home
