TiTi Kong Sunday Breakfast Ride |
29 July 2007 |
I was joisted up by the sounds of rain hitting the roof. The clock by the bedside showed 6am. No good at all ! I was adamant to make the ride with Phang as he would be mothballed for at least 2 months due to a surgery he is under going this coming Friday to repair a torn shoulder ligament. The on-going rain could spoilt all that. A Quick sms to all the guys to put the ride on stand-by as the rain was in very uncompromising mode. Somehow, I managed to doze off again dreaming the sky would clear up. Well, it did. With the sky looking clear and crisp at 8am, the group rescheduled to assemble at Mobil station along Jalan Cheras. Mohan was the last to pop in and we quickly made our way to Ulu Langat.
On the bright side, the heavy rain earlier did a splendid job of washing the dirt and fine sand off the road surface. The short twisty 10 km ride from Pekan Batu 14 Ulu Langat to Semenyih Dam was an appetizer to kick start the morning ride. Only a few of hours earlier, we were even not sure we could hit the road.
The 50 odd kms of snaking road around the Jelebu district mountain range from Lake Semenyih to Titi was a blast saved for some slow traffic. Dizzying horizontal curves coupled with abrupt vertical gradients make motobiking both challenging and engaging. Incidentally, Jelebu district is one of the driest place in whole Malaysia recording an average of 65 inches of rainfalls per year compared to the Taiping which a whopping of 200 inches of rain hitting the area every year. Rain or shine, the Ulu Langat to Kuala Klawang is one of the best Sunday motobiking backroads within 100 kms of Klang Valley. I would even rank it one notch up compared to the more popular Ulu Yam - Awana route.
We stopped in Kampung Titi for breakfast. A typical chinese village, there are a few good eating stalls and coffeeshops. Our favourite is a wantan mee shop along the main road. The wantan (egg) noodles are all homemade and thus very unique and delicious . The stall also serve curry noodles and other typical chinese noodle breakfast.
We decided to shoot back to Ulu Langat via the same route again. Usually we continue the morning ride to Broga and exit via Semenyih. In typical Bagsters style, we detoured to Jeram Gading as Bagsters have this affinity for waterfalls. Sadly, the place is a little dirty and the water flowing to the creek is not exactly clear. Never less, it did not deter some 5 families having a frolicking time there.
Sam, despite complaining his bike was misbehaving again, was leading the pack most of the time. Mohan, feeling youthful and energized after an one week Maria Sharapova-diet was chasing Sam throughout the return ride. Phang was taking it slow and easy while Ivan was still feeling the blues with his recent brush with tarmac. Overall, the return ride was equally fabulous and we even managed to stop at one of the road side seasonal fruit stall to buy some jungle durains. Imagine loading up 10 of these thorny things on a bike ..
