We promptly checked into Woodland Resort, a decent out of the way resort in Kuala Tahan. We decided to upgrade to the chalets as the original rooms we reserved were simply too dingy and small. It was getting dark and we were in no good mood to haggle with the unhelpful sales manager over the chalets’ rates. Incidentally, the rooms would cost RM100 a night and the chalets an additional RM44. We picked the resort as it has a swimming pool. Getting a dip in a cool pool is becoming mandatory after a long and sizzling ride.

The main river jetty is the central of activities. The ‘tourists’ restaurants are mainly purposed built boats anchored to the river’s bank. We expected the food prices to be a little steep as the guests dining there were mainly westerners. In typical Taman Negara style, rain with strong winds suddenly raged our boat restaurant at it mightiest strength. Meanwhile, the chef decided to cook us dishes different from what we ordered. Perhaps we looked like city ‘water-fish.’ He practically cleared his old stock of shrimps away on our tap. We had tom-yam with shrimps, fried vegetables with shrimps, and masak merah with shrimps. The only non shrimp dish ayam goreng turned out to be diced chicken stir-fried with vegetables. We thought we were getting kfc-style fried chicken. Bill came to about RM100 including drinks.

We adjourned to the resort’s cafe for drinks and pool. Rashid decided call it a day. It is always good to end the day with cool beer. Ben, again try to hustle me unsuccessfully on pool.
