The local folks were kind enough to advise us to use the Felda estate slip road to Ajil instead of the main trunk road as the main road is currently undergoing re-surfacing. An immediate left turn after the bridge, it is a little worn and probably ravaged by lorries laden with palm oil seeds. At places, the road is littered with some badly filled pot-holes patches and loose pebbles. Good thing is that the direction signs are well-marked enough to point us to Kuala Berang. Kuala Berang is approximately 250 km from Kuantan. As we missed the only petrol station in Kuala Berang, we were relieved to be able re-fill at the small local petrol station located about 20 km to Pengkalan Gawi
We kept on riding on the main road from Kuala Berang which would take us straight to our first end-of-day destination, Lake Kenyir Resort & Spa. Tasik Kenyir is the largest man-made lake in South East Asia. It was constructed between 1978 and 1985 to power the Sultan Mahmud Hydro Electric Power Plant.,This mammoth dam holds approximately 23.6 million cubic meters of water and occupies 38000 hectares of land. Tasik Kenyir is also a showcase of 340 island which incidentally are actually the tips of highlands and hilltops not submerged during the flooding of the dam. There are 25 waterfalls, more than 25 rivers and rapids feeding the lake, and at least 25 well known known species of fish. Therefore Tasik Kenyir is known as an angler's haven for fishing.
