Frasier Hill Sunday Ride

23 Sept 2007

Don't Remember Frasier Hill ride was this fun.. Maybe because I re-tuned my suspension settings recently. Or maybe I haven't rode in weeks. After all, I was starting to have the withdrawal symptoms. Mohan with Pravin and Kelvin joined in the ride. Oh...yes, like a kid with a new toy to play with, the recently-installed SIGMA trip computer was a blast to use.  It recorded average speeds along the highways, the trail roads and with actual time ridden. I was the first to arrive Tg Malim toll.  Kelvin arrived some 4 min later with Mohan and Pravin no where in sight. As it turned out, Pravin's slip on muffler came loose and MotoGP came to town a few weeks earlier. The  big Suzuki single was POPPING like a cannon on the loose. We managed to find a workshop opened on a Sunday morning along the Kuala Kubu Road (the old road in Malaysia is still in English) for Pravin to tie back the loose cannon.

We resumed our ride when Pravin decided to head back to KL. Weather was  excellent. However, lack of recent rain meant the road was a little dusty and slippery. Traffic was extreme light and we took full advantage to enjoy the old Brit road builders' creation. These road builders of the past tried to take the easiest way around, turning and twisting, and finally cresting the pass at one of the “gaps” in the mountain.  To our dismay, we discovered Gap rest house's gate was padlocked. This was totally unbelievable. Even it is Ramadan, I believed the rest house ought to be opened. After all, it is a tourist attraction and Visit Malaysia Year is yet to conclude.  ...

With little choice, we proceeded to Frasier Hill for our morning tea. As we reached the peak, the weather turned a little gloomy signaling rain is expecting us. Never less, the chilled Frasier Hill air was refreshing and we took our sweet time to enjoy our mee bandung and mee goreng basah or whatever as we could not tell nor taste them apart! Anyway, we were thankful that there were food and drinks served.  Maybe it was Ramadan month, Frasier Hill was devoured of tourists. There were a few die-hards playing golf and a few walking around enjoying the peaceful moment.

We soon made our way down the original snaky one-way Frasier Hill road. Weather was still good for brisk riding.  As we reached Bentong,  the surrounding area road was wet indicated a recent downpour. We took a breather in a mamak restaurant just before the Karak Highway-old Gombak road junction. As we were about to sip our cool 100-plus, the clouds decided to open up. We spent the next 40 min or so waiting out the rain to hit the road again.  We had a jolly time riding in the rain toward home. Well, being  moto-cyclists, we can't complaint  about foul weather.. If we do, we might as well drive !
