7-8 April 2007

We returned to twisty serpentine roads around the main mountain range of Penisular Malaysia.

The vision of connecting the West to the East through the mountain terrains provided a superb canvas for road engineers to create a magical road meant for sportsbiking. Short tight turns from Simpang Pulai kept speeds naturally somewhat in check. However, the consequences of a silly mistake for the new motobiking enthusiast can easily put the trip to an abrupt end. For those who has been on constant diet of Simpang Pulai-Kg Raja mountain roads, the road offered them one hell of a stimulant to the brains’ neurons no drugs can duplicate.

And for the casual motobikers, the route’s many grand vistas offered the most breathtaking view of tropical jungle high up in the clouds. Standing still on one of the vista, we could swear hearing a tiger roar miles away ... Well almost .

We made a quick detour to Kg Raja for some refreshment. Original plan was to head straight to our rented apartment in Brinchang to dump our luggage. With lesser weight strapped around our bikes, we figured we would be better prepared to engage the road from Kg Raja to Gua Musang. The weather has been kind to us with the mid-day sun pounding through the cloudy sky of Cameron Highlands.

The odd 95km route from Kg Raja to Gua Musang offered a mixed multitude turns which belied its true nature of a superbly crafted road. Some stretches were long and wide causing us simply irresistible to twisting the throttles in some silly attempt to feed our brains with some higher-speed diet of tarmac. The smooth relaxed rhythm of curves with equally breathtaking views along with grippy dry road made the Gua Musang lunch trip a much needed relieve to work and home related stress accumulated through the months.

We were happily blazing the road when Rashid suddenly hit the brake to pull over. The constant high speed pounding on his horse took a beating somewhat and his bike’s oil drain plug decided to give way. With the Peggie totally devoured of engine oil, we were  going stucked in the middle of nowhere. To compound that, our mobile phones weren't picking up any signals.  Ivan, Sam and myself decided to carry on to Gua Musang to hunt for a spare drain plug and oil while Phang and Rashid stayed behind.

The monkeys in the jungle seem to laugh at Rashid’s predicament with their loud hailings which pierced through the silence surrounding.

Some two and a half hours later under the hot sun, we managed to get our butts on the road again.
